Race Evaluation

Hudson Highlander IX: Highlander

Wyatt

1. The 14 minute pace of the people I felt I should be with felt close to regular O' pace, so I was happy to be a few seconds back. Esp. given that they'd all need to navigate into the forest first and I could pick who to follow.
2. Long water stop, but did well, left edge of rock, followed Eddie a bit, picked a somewhat windy gap through green (near marsh), but it was fast. Went too far L near bag, but others had more trouble.
3. Wow were people climbing. One pack O' thing I try to do is check my compass - if there is little time to read the map, at least a compass check will tell you whether you're drifting, and people were defintely pulling left. When Boris turned even more uphill, and Wil took a a little less, I turned even more right, figured out that I was left of line in the stream crossings, and then bee-lined in watching many others uphill of me. Of the uphill crowd Ross figured it out first and Leif was coming down toward me, so it was Ross-me-Leif. 2nd to this point, my best placing ever in this race.
4. Took off on compass. Drifted a little too far right and couldn't read the bumps at all, but the compass was okay, and there was a pack coming along to help search and I turned uphill to where they seemed to be convering.
