Race Evaluation

HVO: Harriman: Red

cmorse

1. +05:00not focused, thought about trail right, but did not want to get too close to map edge before getting used to map. went left hoping to cut by marsh - went waaayy too far left, probably even saw #8 - south side of rough open before correcting UP and over. Not a good start.
2. +03:00pretty clean early on, then drifted down spur S of line as I got closer, down to J cliff near swamp before correcting - but slow to be sure of where I was
3. +03:00straight, slow and really tentative, particularly in the green - but hit it fine - just not fast - time lost for tentative pace
4. +02:00overshot a little high, got to really huge boulder (should be a filled-in circle, not an open circle as mapped) - corrected back fine
5. +06:00boom again - down to big trail, pick up little trail between marshes, head uphill in green looking for next trail - never find it (must have crossed it though) realize what's going on when I'm going downhill (toward 9) - turn around and go UP and over getting there ok, but extra climb in this heat is taking its toll.
6. this one not so bad, since I had come down the hill from the direction of 6 previously - I had a good mental route planned straight up and over and it paid off in probably my best split.
7. straight and tentative, slow in the green, but accurate the whole way - pretty much ignoring green and black - just navigating on contour detail
8. +02:00down to trail for a bit, then up and over - heat has taken its toll - really slow now, even in runnable woods I can barely muster a jog
9. +01:30downhill, open woods - running best I can - cramps beginning to manifest in the quads. Trail to road then up and over - wind up about 50m low, climb back UP
10. out to road left, then down - probably not the fastest route - but at this point I was looking for the least strenuous - two people wandering lost in the open, I ran right in, punched and left and I don't think they realized I had punched and gone.
11. straight in - no problem other than slow and bashing through the barberry.
12. up and over the cliffs rather than below - very clean.
13. straight, clean and slow
14. +02:00right of line, find a deer path through laurel, suspect its left me S of line - very slow and tentative going down - not 100% sure of my location and not wanting to climb back up - actually hit it cleanly (dumb luck)
15. actually mustered a jog - straight on the line, gritted my teeth and bashed through the barberry - not fun - and down to road
