Race Evaluation

Hammond Pond: Brown

ParkSchool

1. These were my splits, although I apparently skipped control 19 on the run-in. Up through large reentrant, then n along swamp.
2. +00:10N along elephant path, then trail E and straight in. Actually went to S of small form hill while not reading map carefully.
3. Straight.
4. L of line hitting trail at bridge. Over bridge, then straight in.
5. Straight keeping bare rock on R. Amused by circle with absolutely no features inside, although did agree that placement and description of control were accurate.
6. Trail to road, drawing honks as I crossed from speeding red convertible, although I am sure I was quite clear. Wasted a few seconds keeping feet dry, then got a bit lucky as I saw flag while I still was planning to run a bit further.
7. Straight staying L of distinctive circular cliff.
8. +00:30Tried to go straight, but confused by fact I was crossing an apparent swamp. When I cleared, I was at S end of an oval hill. Thought I was N of flag and headed S, but then I noticed number of rocky features and circled back to N end to hit flag.
9. +01:30Had been warned that circle was in wrong place. Decided to just run up the hill and look for 2 m feature on top. This was not an optimal strategy. Eventually worked my way back N from bare rock.
10. Went around to L, then past E edge of large cliff.
11. +00:20R of large cliff on line, but then ran parallel to path to corner of parking lot for no good reason. Then had to attack through briers from S of temple.
12. S to road, then up and along tip of cliff.
13. Down reentrant to exchange, then nicely on line noting boulders on bare rock to L which I planned to use as attackpoint for go control.
14. Mostly on line enjoying nice clean running over bare rock on way.
15. On line to trail, then cut corner, but had to wait 5-7 seconds to cross.
16. On line to trail, then straight over top with large cliff behind me to E.
17. Straight, athough dragged briefly to the right by a man standing behind a boulder for a nature stop. Whoops.
18. On line, feeling like I had a chance to beat TP's time.
19. Oops. Never saw this control hiding on the edge of the swamp. This is the second straight time at Hammond Pond where the run in has had three controls in a perfectly straight line and I have failed to notice the middle one. Ugh.
20. Took high road just L of line direcly from #18 to #20, feeling very good about my performance as I attacked successfully from the boulders on bare rock.
F. Through gap between cliffs to finish. Was blissfully unaware of my error until I sat down to record my splits and noticed that I was one punch short.
