1. +03:00Includes 5:03 copying the map and stuffing it into the map case. Slipped on a rock and bumped my knee, which stopped me for a minute and bothered me for the rest of the course. Then missed the control a little to the right and recovery was not obvious.
2.
3. Went right and attacked up from the trail junction NW of the control.
4. Down the tricky cliffs behind Dave Yee. It was hard to see where the cliffs were passable, but when I saw Dave ahead of me stop short, I took a different direction and got ahead.
5. Found cliff and had to follow south along it for 5m before the marker came into view.
6. +02:00Turned off the trail and instead of the marker found myself on a rocky knoll with bare rock. It took a minute or two to figure out that I was north of the control.
7. +00:30On reaching the trail, nearly crossed it into a reentrant 50m too far south. Reconsidered and found the correct reentrant.
8. Right around the marsh. Found several smaller cliffs near the right one.
9. +02:30After going between the marshes, drifted too far right and mistook the larger hill for the one near the control.
10.
11. The blocked-off trail is getting familiar from past visits to Noanet Woodlands, so I dropped into the reentrant on the left before even reaching the sign. Went south on trail until past the low spot, then in.
12.
13. +02:30Trouble with trails. Planned to go right once past the marshes, but turned right before all of the marshes were passed, and ended up going the hard way around a little hill. Then planned to attack from the indistinct trail but got turned by misinterpreting the little trails at the top of the hill, and was led to attack from the east. Seem to have lucked out, bumping into the control way before my pace count expected it.
14. +00:45Overshot the control on the downhill trail.
15.
16. Around the marsh to the right.
17. +00:30Mixed up on trails again, got onto the northern trail unintentionally. Approaching the control, the map didn't match very well, but I found the control in the second place I looked.
18. +01:30Decided to attack along the ridge/knoll southwest of the control. The terrain intervening between the knoll and control was a little confusing, with the marshy area not showing well on my map due to the way I had drawn my circle. Before I knew it, my right leg was up to the knee in muck, and wouldn't come out! Thought I might leave a shoe behind as the suction gripped everything. Getting good support from a couple fallen tree branches, I extracated myself, and went around the marsh. Hesitated a bit, as the map made it appear as if the spur should be obvious, but it wasn't so visible coming from the south.
19. Left around the hill. Maybe right over the steep part would have been better.
