Race Evaluation

NEOC: Diamond Hill: Blue

dness

1. Plan was to cut west and use the ruin as the point at which to cut SE. Not executed well - I passed a nose with a rock formation which I mistook for a ruin, went into the thick stuff. Backed up and went around. Got confused by the rock formations and had to use the trail to reorient.
2. Straight shot - cut west from the trail junction.
3. Went straight, not the trail. Spiked it.
4. Ended up going through the saddle (not original plan). Followed hillside. Tough going.
5. Run trail to end, then dive in. Follow reentrant around and up.
6. Ran trail around to the south, then cut west after the knoll.
7. It seemed to take forever to get to the trail - must have been going further west than planned. Anyway, straightforward. Trail W, N, bearing from bend.
8. Took nearest trail E, only later realizing that cutting across would have saved climb. Then ran N from junction and around N. Found an unmapped cliff in the circle + got confused, eventually finding the other one.
9. Straight shot. Stopped for goo at the water stop.
10. SE from wall junction. Goo hadn't done its work, so I was worried that I started from the wrong one, so I slowed down. Spiked it, tho.
11. Trail to reentrant NE of control. I again lost confidence because it was thick, thought I was too far west and overcorrected. When I hit the stone wall and saw the rocks on the other side, I worked it out eventually.
12. Run trail N then E then cut S to end of stone wall, then E. Not very efficient.
13. Started running the trail around S, E, N etc., but didn't like the climb, so I turned around and went N through the junk. Found a nice trial up, which I took, then cut NW at a point. Didn't find the bag where I thought, so I went N to the trail, thought I knew where I was and cut back in. Nope. Spotted the cliff to the NE of the control and used that. Finally!
14. Found a trail and ran it. In the process, my ability to focus on the map disappeared. I was seeing diamonds (low blood pressure?). Ended up on the N/S trail further than I thought. Wandered a bit before I figured it out.
15. Through the gap, had to jump off a 6 foot cliff.
F. For the area, it was a nice course.
