Started off going up trail before looking at map. Realized I was going wrong direction and cut into woods. Didn't have my orienteering brain. Just ran into the rocks hoping to get lucky. I didn't. Finally bailed out to road. Saw road junction and ran back up the hill to the control.
2. +00:15Was a little high.
3. Across field with intent to run to right of slash. Slash was bigger than mapped. To semi open area to high ground. hesitant near control
4. +04:00Down clearing to trail. Tried to figure out what the funny symbol on the map is that looks like a star. Never did see it. Hit man hole at first X. Second manhole was not on the map. I am beginning to have serious doubts about the map. Ran down the spur. People wandering all over. Didn't see control. Kept going. Saw huge dead tree and ran to it. There wasn't a control and apparently it wasn't on the map either. Hmmm. Ran to river side. To close to river. ran around and ended back up to where I was before. Eventually saw a control. $%*#$(# CONTROL SETTER!!!! The control was suppose to be on a "ruined tree". It was on a large tree that was recently dead but still had all it branches and many of its pine needles. You couldn't even tell it was dead without looking way up. This was a bad feature to use as a control. I was not happy.
5. +00:20Got a little to right
6. +03:00Given the crappy slash, decided to take the trail around. Cut into control just past trail junction. Started into the woods and couldn't get through unmapped slash. Tried 3 times and finally had to run way around. Came up semi open field to right to where control should be. Lots of people wandering around including Michael Platt. Standing where control should be but couldn't see it. Wandered a bit and finally stumbled on it. #$*&&* course setter. This is a BINGO control.
7. +00:30Straight down hill to trail. Down trail to field. Couldn't read trails in clearings. Go on one which turned out to not be the one I thought. Saw I was close enough to hill and ignored trail and cut into woods. Over hill and tried to read contours. Got a little off to the right.
8. straight
9. Straight. Map is wrong in the area. Line hides the clearing. See the control way off to the side from where it should be based on vegetation. Loose control and wonder if all I saw was a person. Find control.
10. +02:00Around slash to control area. Should be able to see control but can't. Wander in green for awhile. Eventually stumbled onto control. Tom Strat was standing next to it and didn't see it. #$$*%) course setter. Another Bingo control.
11. +00:45Went straight. Tough to run on side of hill in slash. Found lower cliff first and had to cut up to higher one.
12. +04:00Get to trail anyway I could. Over to other trail. Cut into woods to soon and was low to the right. Ran by control. Puzzled, Cut up to the higher ground and finally figured out where I was and ran back to control.
13.
14. +06:00Just ran in the general direction to the power line with the plan to relocate when I got there. Unfortunately I relocated wrong. Just not my day. Finally relocated off the campground and went right to the control.
