Race Evaluation

US Champs: Red Y

1. Race comments: Not a lot of planning :-(. My mind didn't really get into the race until late. Wasn't reading a lot of detail; mostly just running to centre of circle and looking for a flag. Maybe too much park orienteering (and events like COCs where I was walking up hills and had plenty of time to read the map). Sloppy race.

3. Did not plan ahead
Read map too late
Confused parallel features
Not thinking clearly
Lacked concentration

Didn't read map carefully enough (too reckless), and so attacked as though I was at a different clearing corner. Hit fence. Then when I got to the big boulder my brain must have been short-circuiting since I thought the boulder was supposed to be on a knoll, and also I looked in the wrong direction from the boulder.
4. I guess I run faster when I'm pissed off.

6. Bad route choice
Not thinking clearly
+01:00
I saw Spike going the around route to 6 as I was going to 1, but somehow thought it was similar climb each way until I checked more closely halfway up the hill. Oh well, not thinking well this day.
7. Bad map reading
+01:00
From my attackpoint where the ridge flattened, I went too far left and hit another clearing with a fallen tree (but fallen the opposite direction). Read map and figured out I was too far left (too close to steeper bit to north).

9. Did not like map
+05:30
Came within 10m of control, but couldn't see it. Relocated twice. Should have done what Adrian did...run up a hill and look down. Much easier to see the control in the bushes from above.
10. I guess I run faster when I'm pissed off.

15. Tired
Not thinking clearly
+01:15
Saw campers at the sewage dump and my tired brain thought I must be too close to the campground somehow. Then figured it out.
