Race Evaluation

Hickory Goat: 18k Goat

3. Skipped 3, but only after trying to find 3R unsuccessfully and then, not wanting to use the skip yet, unsuccessfully looking for 3L (and apparently finding every depression except the right one). Clearly a candidate for my top 10 orienteering blunders list.
4. No bag, just a streamer, but it was in a depression so that was good enough for me.
5. Not very clean - needed to relocate on the rocky clearing N of the control. First bag I'd seen in 55 minutes!
6. Missed on the first try and had to relocate from the trail.
7. Finally started using my brain and had only (relatively) small navigational errors the rest of the way.

12. Skipped, even though the food was there. Should've skipped 9 instead.

14. Saw Tim Good and Dave Onkst (apparently headed to 13!). Got reinvigorated realizing that others were still out on the course (with as far to go as me).
15. Checked a few ponds before finding the right one.
16.
17. Executed well (main trail to right of line, then through the narrowest bit of green) but lost time due to legs cramping while I was in the green (ouch!).

21. Left fork.
22. Got caught up in the green for a bit but eventually headed down the white woods reentrant to the road.
23. Came down the white strip from the trail to the north and found the bag without too much searching. Saw Dave Onkst pass about 30 meters from the bag headed north just before I found it. Would've tipped him off, but I had no interest in a footrace to the finish.
