Race Evaluation

West Point A-Meet: Classic: Green Y

Charlie

1. couldn't face the climb right out of the start, so went down the trail to the reentrant before climbing. Recognized the extra climb, but somehow it was easier psychically
2. Straight to first wall, then downhill under the green, past the reentrant at bottom of second wall and had to climb a line at the end. John Campbell passed here
3. A little left of line to avoid climbing over spur, then up the trail segment a bit and climbed early, approaching level and from the west
4. right of the cliffs and up
5. down the reentrant and timed it right to come up just before and could see the knoll from a distance. A little satisfaction seeing a guy studying his map just S of knoll.
6. good control for me, fast down the spur and picked up the trail, saw the boulder from the top of the knoll and straight for it.
7. easy. Kind of slow, but how much time can I have lost?
8. trail. When I cut off my foot hit a stick and I went down hard among the rocks. Lucky I didn't open my forehead. As it was I was pretty dazed and had to walk for a while. Once I recovered enough, navigation was easy and fun. Up the broad saddle, up the hill left of cliffs and straight in, noticing there was a flag close to my right, but not fooled by it.
9. Very nice leg. Looked for reentrant coming up and hooked right down it.
10. A little adjustment as I hit the reentrant from the side and had to climb down a cliff. Otherwise fine.
11. Down the spur. Got passed by Jon Torrance, who was not going all that fast.
12. Hit the trail, and then hit stream too far right so had to go down a bit and get around some green
13. Easy, although I saw the flag on the boulder with the wall as backdrop, and our flag was hidden behind a tree. I wasn't fooled by it.
14. Easy
15. Easy
16. A little difficulty finding a way out of 15 without going through water, then up the road and over the spur, then straight for the hill.
17. Went S out and skirted a bunch of green, then it looked so awful that I went back all the way to the yellow to get up the hill and in.
18. Now I'm looking at my watch and desperate to get under an hour.
F. Only 22 seconds left and running as hard as I can.
