West Point A-Meet: Middle Green X

1. Did not like map
Confused parallel features
+11:00
Angled out to the road, and then back in form the bend down the streamlet. Boy did this suck! For starters, the clue is northern cliff and there is no cliff in the center of my circle, northern or otherwise. Second, the area is awash in 3 meter cliffs. I relocated several times on the large cliff on the N edge of the circle, but just couldn't find it looking over and over among the cliffs. Finally posted myself on a likely looking entry route and followed a group of 4 thrashing around until someone got it.
2. +00:10Not able to keep up, but generally following PG. Pretty straight. Came in just above and looked uphill first, but not much time lost.
3. Trying to get to the road, and drifted a bit R of the line I intended - ended up just barely L of red line. Anyway, easy control. Passed the stream crossing and up the reentrant. It was up one cliff higher than I was looking for it, but no real loss.
4. +02:30Another one that sucked. Pretty straight route, checking off spurs and coming just under the large boulder NNE of control, straight up to the knoll. No flag on N side! Looked around E side to S and still nothing. Climbed on top of knoll and looked around to see if there was another knoll. Then got involved in a chat with a fellow who approached the knoll and stood there looking perplexed at the NW side near a big rock. Finally I figured out he was perplexed because he was at a control that wasn't his, and I found mine tucked behind a cliff on the NNW side of the knoll. Not cool.
5. Attempting right of line, but drifted left and paused a bit to relocate on end of knoll halfway there.
6. Easy, but careful in case it was a rocky downhill, which I feared.
7. No real problem, but stopped to look at another control on the way, just in case. Stopped for a few seconds to check on a guy who crashed real hard as he went in to punch behind me.
8. +02:00Nasty. On compass, S of #4, across the reentrant just where it flattened out. Read the knolls and then down NE of line of cliffs. Now just around the knoll and in, right? Nope. Area was a wall of cliffs, and several little reentrants off SW side of mapped nice round knoll. Got below and then looked up to see it nestled among the cliffs. Why put a control in such a poorly mapped spot? Alas, others were able to find these things, so the fault must be mine.
9. Under the line of cliffs and up at the right time. bl was following and breathing way too heavy for me, so I let him by. Nasty jump down a cliff to get in there.
10. Hard time getting down the hill in the rocks, and had to tie shoes along the way, too. That let Valery get by, and I couldn't catch him after that. Very sore feet.
11. Fairly straight, ending up in the clearing just left of line before road. Valery followed road, but I cut straight. I think I got there first, or we got there together.
12. Very difficult footing. In retrospect, it would have been worth it to take the trail to the road.
