Race Evaluation

London City Race: 5. Mens Veterans (40+)

AngusL

1. P D Could have taken a slightly more direct route over the last 5m but trivial time lost.
2. P D P R Very straightforward, round the back of Morgan Stanley.
3. P D P R Clear fast run.
4. P D P R Perfect approach and fastest on this leg
5. D R Slightly behind with my thinking here because I'd been looking ahead to six, but still fourth - the route choice had no alternative options.
6. P D P R +00:4551st and 45s lost: poor route choice heading out east. This is silly of me - taking the less obvious route because I think the planner's trying to be clever thinking people won't spot it. Don't guess on derivatives of the problem…
7. P D P R Happy with this, and back up to 18th. Might have been quicker going east to avoid the traffic.
8. D OK - 20th. Worked on my route on the way, having fallen behind again.
9. P D P Good mental image of this one.
10. D R Actually almost ran straight past this one, and got fifth. Good route choice heading south out of #9.
11. P D R
12. P D R Slightly tired on the hill.
13. P D R Slightly overshot.
14. P D Possibly the wrong route on the longer leg which I'm normally good on - north might have been better than east.
15. P D P R
16. P D P R +01:00Overshot due to two people standing in front of the control on the way in. Should have had a better image of how far I was running. 65th was my worst leg all race.
17. P D P Having looked at this on the way to #16, I ignored my route plan and went with the flow. Can't complain with 13th though, so not too bad!
18. D Not ideal start to the leg but no disaster.
19. D Again possibly tiring meaning I was losing contact with the map but 15th isn't poor.
20. P D R +00:40Another poor leg given tiredness creeping in and wanting to take a contrarian route. Took the longer southern route rather than re-tracing my steps. 54th. Could have saved time at the control site by keeping going rather than hesitating.
21. P D P R Back on it. 11th.
22. P D P Interesting control site but in traffic for the first time and that was helping me regain some focus.
23. P D R Despite knocking my ankle leaving #22, back on pace. Very little difference between north and south routes - south possibly slightly quicker.
24. D Running on instincts now, but quick.
25. D P Slight recovery on map reading.
26. D Completely focused on my pace…
F. D … and second on the final leg.
