1. | Didn't know it at the time, but I followed same route as everyone else: NW across spur, down to river running N, look for large open earthbank and reentrant, cross river at flooded crossing point, and up opposing spur, to skirt S-trending reentrants all the way to #1. Don't know why PG, Soupbone and others blew this leg.
2. | S/H headed S instead of W to trail as I did. W trail turned out to be flooded and rutted from heavy horse use: difficult footing. Nevertheless others took 16-17 minutes on this leg.
3. | Worked my way E on spur, to break through green to #3 in reentrant in sunny open; nice views as I left control
4. | +05:00 | Lazy route choices cost many minutes; s/h run more directly along purple line from #3 instead of my route S to trail, then trail run/walk all the way to reentrant system containing #4.
5. | Easy compass to big reentrant system.
6. | Another easy compass leg
7. | Run down to cliff. Mike there dispensing refreshments - one of the all-time best water controls.
8. | Hesitant plunge back into green from second loop in trail. Saw intermittant trail, and tried to find it on way out.
9. | +10:00 | Biggest error: wandered off the map after I became confused in first reentrant system - stream was flowing E, instead of running off southern cliff as I expected.
10. | +06:00 | Demoralized. Blindly followed trail up unnecessary contours instead of staying low as PG did here. But after passing #2 my route was ok.
11. | +03:00 | Again, too much wandering; s/h walked NE from #10 directly on purple line.
F. | A beaten man: in to final punch in center of circle of flags. A memorable run and day on Green for first time in ~4 years? |
