Race Evaluation

2002 Billygoat Run:

PG

1. Thought about skipping #1. Don't know why I didn't.
2.
3.
4. Skipped 3. Had a few people tailing me who discovered at some point that we were heading to 4, and who also at that point decided to skip 3. At some point in here it started to rain, making life miserable for anyone wearing glasses.
5.
6. Wasn't sure where I was for most of the first half of the leg, but I knew I was going the right direction. A pond just to the left of beeline set me straight.
7. Should have gone straighter at the start (I went left to skip most of the marsh, but it was no problem crossing).
8. Only real mistake - dropped onto the spur just east of the control. Saw people coming from there and thought had had punched.... Not much time lost.
9. To the trail bend, down the trail a bit, than across on the more gradual slopes and then up at the end. Felt easier than the high route and I gained on everyone around me, I think.
10. Good movement.
11. Face plant on the trail (kicked a rock really hard with my bad big toe).
12.
13. Slow
14. Slow, company now down to Tim and Bernie
15. A little right of straight, took a header on the steep slope and busted my compass, otherwise ok.
16. This and 17 were really fun, moving and orienteering pretty well. Routes bending a little left and right to fit the flow of the terrain.
17.
18.
19.
