1. | Felt okay but not strong to start. Warmed-up with 2K. Peggy started 8 minutes ahead and I hoped to catch-up. Leaving from the trailbend, I went down the right side of the big reentrant due to deadfall, and thencrossed it to spike the control. Peggy's route of around to the left was probably better.
2. | Going down the reentrant to the stream junction, I went straight and followed the reentrant down to the control.
3. | Going straight, I worked into the last reentrant but stayed on the left side to avoid rough footing. I had to come back more than expected at the end but didn't overshoot.
4. | Going straight, I was gaining confidence. After crossing the first reentrant, I read the ditch slanting across to my right which is something I wouldn't have done earlier. At the end, I went left to get around the deadfall and sprinted a finish to the control.
5. | Not wanting to come back the way I came, I went right across some light green, the hard left up the hill in a whiteish alley to the trail and turned right. I left the trail just where it started climbing and used the reentrant to take me there. It was farther than I anticipated as I sprinted to beat another runner to the bag successfully.

Did not follow plan Ran too fast Bad map reading Confused parallel features Could not relocate Disturbed by others +04:30 | Rushing-off, I went straightish. I caught-up to an older man who was going more to the right and higher. Second guessing myself and also wanting to avoid the up and downs, I went right to go around the last reentrant. Thinking I was lower and forgetting to turn left again, I went over the ridge and downward toward the creek. I knew to look for a horseshoe bend in the creek but didn't see it. I went right, then left across the steep hill and deadfall. Finally coming to a rock, I saw the creek bend and climbed back to the control.

No attack point Bad route choice Not thinking clearly +05:00 | Dropping down the reentrant, then setting a bearing, I hesitated crossing the stream for want of a better place. I expected my lie to be more to the left so as I proceeded, I got confused finding the creek ahead of me again. I was at the horsehoe bend. It was pretty with a huge rock overhang but not the trail I wanted to see just then. Going around instead of making another mistake and crossing, I turned right on the trail and left it at a bend, to cross a spur into the reentrant. In the deadfall, I stayed to the left going to the top. I crossed over and looked between fallen trees then gave-up relocating to the trail on the north side. Attacking from a junction w/an old road, I saw the control immediately but as I proceded down, lost sight of it again. I found it okay after the hesitation.
8. | The day wasn't going as good as it started so I ran right up to the trail. Attacking past the intersection from where the trail began to rise again, I curled right down to it.

Bad route choice Not thinking clearly +04:00 | My plan was to follow the stream down, use the trail, then follow the stream up. It was much greener than it mapped on the left side of the stream. I decided to cross but then was forced to climb to get around worse. It would have been faster to go straight after the climb but I came all the way back down to the stream, expecting to be at the creek. Disoriented, I crossed the stream and eventually found the creek and trail. The green around the stream looked bad on the map so I decided to make-up time by going past and around it on the east side. Leaving the trail on a pace count, I climbed hit the next trail, then left it at a bend headed to the knoll. I eventually could see the control but crossing the double green hashed deadfall, it took another whole minute to get there.

Bad route choice +00:45 | I ran across the ridge crossing the black trail and dropping into the reentrant. It was good running. Had I known the pink dashed line a the edge of the map was a trail, I might have taken it instead. Following the steam, I had to go more to the left to get around some green near the creek. I went right on the trail and after hesitation, crossed at the slight bend. Walking up, I was glad to have spikes. Realizing it to be a water control I just kept going figuring that it had to be on flatter ground and spiked it.

Bad route choice | I guess the climb seemed too steep to go right back down. I went straight crossing the reentrants and deadfall slowly. In the process, I dropped without meaning to. At the trail I realized this and followed the spur and then ditch to the control. A younger woman was just getting there as I punched and I wondered if she had made-up time on me.

Did not follow plan Underrated difficulty +02:00 | Rushing off, I stayed right and along the edge of the wide reentrant to avoid deadfall. Approaching the pines, I climbed to the corner then proceeded along them. Getting too smart for myself, I bore left at the hill crest instead of waiting till the pines ran out. I was wide and had to spiral my way back to the pines and then the "rock" group.

Did not follow plan Underrated difficulty Bad compass work +00:40 | Meaning to go straight, I got rightish in crossing deadfall. I had to fight thick thorns at the edge of the paved road and had to come back to the control.
F. | Not my best effort but I've done far worse in bad green areas. |
