Down wet ditch to end of spur and curled back through a lot of deadfall. A unidentified interscholastic runner is following me.

Back to wet ditch and down a ways on the spur, then up over the two spurs to the control circle area. Confused by map in this area. Parts of ditch look much more significant than mapped. A lot of hesitation here to figure out what the heck is going on.
3. Hesitated

A little bit above the stream fork and then on up the wet ditch. A lot of red light on top of the spur to figure out where the control is actually placed.

Up the long series of dry ditches and straight down to the control circle, a little bit through the bad downfall. However, because of green slashing on map, I don't visualize the ditch properly and cut back south on it for a little bit until I realize what I've done. An interscholastic runner follows me into the control.

Down through the bare rock and up over the first series of ditches to the next reentrant further N. Run the trail NW to the small dry ditch that is parallel to the trail at the top of the hill and cut in straight down on a compass bearing. I nail a ditch right on, the unmapped one. Because I thought I'd nailed the right one, I turn N and look up a few of the other dry ditches before turning further S and finding the control ditch.
6. Did not read control code

Stayed high and hugged the top of the reentrants. Tim Gilbert is really high and we head into the bag simultaneously. He yells out the correct bag number and I pass within a foot of the bag, but I don't punch because I read the wrong control code number from my card. I move on pass the reentrant to edge of the hill and stand dumbfounded. By the time I've figured out what I've done, and head back to the control, I've lost about 1.5 minutes. Ouch!!!! This is the third A-Meet that I've read the wrong control code number at.
7. Ran too fast
Frustrated
+02:30
Because I'm a bit mad at myself, I hurry out of the control circle area a little too fast and drift. Down through the marsh and a bit left of the bend in the stream. Spent a bit of time looking for a good crossing. Attack from the little stream that runs off to the NW. A bad way to attack this control apparently. I hit the area pretty quickly, but can't see the bag down in the green mess where it is hung. I continue on to the trail and stop and look backward. I finally just dive into the green and find the bag "hidden" in it. Apparently if you run the ditch up from the SE, you saw the bag much more easily. A very frustrating and luck filled control.

Right to it, but very slow and deliberate. Someone follows me in, I don't know who.

Wanting to get away from the person who followed me, I leave quickly and head down to the small stream directly S of # 8. But instead of staying low, I go up over the steap deadfall filled spur as I watch the other runner stay low. Don't ask me why, I don't know. I then go down to the big steam and small W stream intersection and hit the trail and start running S and then stop. After a good 30-45 seconds, I finally figure out what's going on and head up the small stream headed S. I follow it all the way up to about 150 S of the control. I then head up to the control circle using the top of the small hill as a backstop and sighting point. There is an extra unmapped reentrant in here that is confusing. I actually took a glance in the correct reentrant when I came up, but I don't see anything obvious in the green mess and start circling out. Finally, I decide to return to the top of the wet ditch and walk in very carefully. After finally clawing my way up, I see the bag, barely, in the middle of the green. A very luck filled control.
10. Ran too fast
Bad compass work
+03:00
Plan is to head straight until I hit the small W-E stream and run into the big stream, but because I'm trying to make up time, and am not watching my compass closely enough, I drift all the way down to the NW most fork in the main stream and have to relocate from there.
11. Straight, back through # 2 and then off of the tiny wet ditch NE of the control.
12. Tired
+00:20
Down the trail and turned up when the green ran out. The control feature was right on line.
13. Sandy Fillebrown has left # 12 about 20-30 seconds before me and I follow her line NEE to the buildings and then run backwards through the parking lot to the control. It seems like this was a cleaner and faster line than directly straight or out to the road to the E.
F. Many cheers for me on the run in--thanks.
