Race Evaluation

West Point A-Meet: Red-2

dlevine

1. Wow, a crowd! Didn't realize Red, Green and Blue shared this leg!
2. Followed Mike Lyons up hill, but couldn't keep up.
3. Saw lots of people standing around looking lost on ride; went right in.
4. Went left, below cliffs and above swamp; didn't feel fast, but got in fine.
5. Wasn't careful and ended up two contours low.
6. Bobbled again after going left and again ended up low.
7. Spiked this one after blowing it two years ago.
8. Down to road chasing a blue runner.
9. Up hill, past blue control in reentrant (again) and then over. Was a bit lost until I saw the rootstock and then the control.
10. Slogged this one badly on the hill; just got tired. Eventually checked the hill just to the north; wasn't expecting it, but didn't want to go by it no matter what.
11. Down to the terrace, through the cliffs, past the bare rock/cliff and in. Real easy, but I wasn't moving well due to lack of confidence.
12. Still tentative, but saw two runners attacking 11 from 12, so it was easier.
13. Small pack formed and then dissipated.
14. Tried to remember from two years ago which side of swamp was better. Chose to go through saddle and north of green swamp, but then got tentative about 150 m from control.
15. Down hill across swamp and into thicker stuff than I anticipated. Lots of lost folks. Tentative, but mostly clean.
16. Move to the point where runners are converging.
F. Walk through rocks to crest of hill; then try to run.
