O' in the Oaks: Blue Day 1

randy

1. Unused to map
+03:00
saw a contour feature in the terrain that I did not recognize on the map. Think I was high
2. around the top of the gully and thru the green. Spike.
3. south of the pond, up the hill, across the white woods a few contours below the trail then down the spur. Spike. Lost a bit of time getting thru that fence on the steep hillside.
4. down the gully to the second index contour, contour around the spur, picking up the cliff, around the top of the green, back to the index contour, cross the first spur, down the second, hit the white woods midway between the two clearings flanking it, pick up that basin, spike.
5. trail to spur, down narrow clearing on spur, little dicey trying to count dead trees, cut in to angle to control and see it 10m up the hill
6. little left climbing arms length from spine of spur. spike. Legs getting tired.
7. up spine of spur to three trees, contour around on unmapped trail which drops you 2 contours below bag. Used gully as collecting feature. Tenative on this one.
8. upper trail
9. slog up the spur, then up the hill, attack off fence clearing junction. Total climb of 25 contours ...
10. straight counting reentrants keeping arms length from the clear. Was not about to climb another contour
11. around to trail/spur tip junction, down hill, then up gully.
12. tiredness and climb pushed me left to where trail touches white woods. Could see flag from there. Contour around on unmapped trail.
13. Read map too late

straight getting trapped by the gully and went back around. Should aim right.
