Ottawa Fall Series Event 4: Long Advanced

boyle

1. This year's drought conditions didn't help dry the lakeside trail which I abandoned but then found the alternatives just as wet and that was before the rain started.
2. From the start I chose compass over trail and soon learned I must get new compass.
3. Dangerously slippery rocky trail confirmed choice to go overland.
4.
5. I drifted right and attacked off trail junction.
6. Despite being a tiny straight S leg, I managed to lose a placing.
7. I stumbled around in the wrong open area.
8. There were too many other rocks near control.
9.
10. Again I wasn't fast enough on tiny straight S leg, losing another spot.
11. My first trail run turned out horrid drifting left 200m and hitting wrong control before catching feature.
12. Having already visited control, I had fast leg.
13.
14. Picked up Alex at 13 and watched& followed him failing at 14 and saw Eric tumble off cliff.
15. While I much enjoyed long run though drifted left 150m, did not enjoy failing in circle with Lester & others. Found old control we would eventually leave at 15 which was in the right spot.
16. Straight run up dry pond
17. Trail run past pond and doubled back, good route choice beat others
18. Attacked from trails W of control
19. Followed back of yards
20. Moved up place on trail run
21.
22. Big mistakes and Lester caught up, went S below cliff all the way to yards and then came back up and N but was still short of control until I eventually matched main trail and map, too long on course at this point. Good thing I took water at both stops.
23. N trail and off parking lot
24. Straight N but hesitated in valley
25. Should have gone up and stayed up
26. Overland
F. Straight up straight down, a fine tradition on this map
