Race Evaluation

2006 North American Championships (Golden Leaf Ori: Middle Course 6

PBricker

1. Had a lot of energy. Went straight through the marsh and spiked it.
2. +01:00Right over the limestone after the trail, but then drifted left. Corrected pretty quickly.
3. +23:00Lost contact on the way and landed at a boulder 200 meters due north of the control. Never occurred to me I could be that far away, so my attempts to relocate were in vain until I hit some distinctive rock 120 meters southeast of the control. But I messed up the attack from there, didn't find it, and headed back to the north. Eventually I relocated on the trail 350 m. north. Ugly, mindless orienteering.
4. With the race blown, I settled down and spiked the next four controls.
5. Instead of taking the trail, which messed some people up, I went straight through the marsh, attacking from the boulder.
6.
7. Bounced off a bit of trail, attacking from the bend.
8. +01:00Plan was to follow the fence to the trail, but I never saw the fence, and was hesitating a lot, and changing bearing, until I came to the clearing just right of line. Then the trail to the junction and in.
9. Left of line to the clearing. Then saw it from a ways away.
