1. | Slight hesitation pulling off so soon without a clear view of the control or feature
2. | Up the trail, left then down from the bend. It was a bit farther down than I thought it'd be but I saw it far off.
3. | Up to the trail, left around the worst of the nasty terrain, up along the vegetation boundary to near the top of that, up to the trail then in from a bend. Near the end, I left the trail too soon and had to come up through the woods too far. I almost didn't see it.
4. | I ran fairly straight.
5. | Cautious, but straight again. I didn't notice the trails until after finishing.
6. | +00:20 | I got a bit high and past the control. The streams weren't distinct so I wan't completely sure if I'd gone far enough or too far. Stopping at the correct distance on the feel of it, I rechecked the clue description, looked around and found the rootstock.
7. | I went down quickly and a bit to the right for clearer running. After crossing the first stream, I hit the second near a bend and knew just where I was. Ahead going straight looked thickish so I ran right down the stream through the water to the sharp bend, then up and in.
8. | +00:15 | I went straight and across the felled area. I was a bit high and had to correct at the end. Fortunately, I saw it.
9. | +03:30 | I ran straight, got on the trail, then attacked from a bend when the trail continued uphill. I must have ran just over the top of it. I saw another control ahead so I kept going. Finding out that this wasn't the right one either, I hesitated, then went even further, away from the actual control location. Seeing a control from the sprint earlier in the day, I turned around, slowly making my way to the incorrect control that drew me away earlier, then into the correct one.
10. | +00:45 | Up around the rough open, then into the area. I didn't see it at first and was just a bit low. I went on past the vegetation boundary to a trail then turned back and found it. Ksenya caught me just before I punched.
11. | Out quick and going downhill, I put some distance between myself and Ksenya. I read ahead on the course, the focused on catching another orienteer who probably was in my age group. I didn't quite catch-up but he led me right to the same place I was going to attack from. I knew pretty quickly that the dot knoll would be where the trees were but it was reasuring to see the other orienteer there and also Jim Rayburn.
12. | Back out to the trail the way I'd come, I attacked from a trail bend or intersection. An elephant trail led me there.
13. | I went forward, then back to the trail. Jim R. and the other guy were ahead. I passed Jim just before punching.
14. | Jim Rayburn passed me, then I chased the guy I'd started seeing at #11 and Jim. I walked a bit as we crossed the rutted area since it was too hard to see through the waist deep grasses. Nearing the pond, I saw Peggy and Greg Lennon heading out.
15. | I chased Jim Rayburn and the other guy. My original thought was to go high early and use the trail. Instead, I chased Jim R. and the other guy on a low route. After fatefully turning left to go uphill on a mowed surface, I passed Jim and the other guy, got passed by a strong Army runner, then led the Army runner and others to the control. I was a bit high at the end. In hindsight, I should have stayed low to avoid extra contours and attacked off a stream bend.
