Race Evaluation

2006 Sprint Series Finals Festival: Farsta

Charlie

1. +09:00This was the start of my second loop, and I did something new for me. Somehow I determined I should go to #3 and went directly there, crossing streams and everything. Got as far as punching, and saw that I was now supposed to go to . . . 4? oops! But back across the sreams and over the hill and attacked from stony ground.
2. Careful on compass. This was the second time to this control, and went much better than the first time.
3. OK, now I'm back on the first leg. Crossed stream just R of reentrant and up and over spur to small reentrant - spike.
4. Just W along rightside of ridge line and right in.
5. On compass and crossed stream. Found #155 first, but no real problem. Just stayed R of white area.
6. Straight - watching shape of white and yellow areas.
7. +01:30OK, except very slow and stopping many times before getting there.
8. On compass. Got a little lower to the left than I thought, and came in from below.
9. Pretty much on compass to top of long knoll. Couldn't move very well because so stony and slippery, but right into control.
10. SW to trail jct, then around on trail.
11.
12. First loop - went through woods, and saw people who had gone around on trails. Woods were slow. Climbed up spur to control with Hillary, but she headed off to the left, and was probably on the other leg. Got a little off to the left, but not bad.
13. On compass, and very thick going. Went about the right distance, then looked around and saw it off to the left.
14. +22:00On compass, but going very thick. When I thought I had gone far enough started looking around. Saw some folks, but didn't know if they had already been there and what they might be looking for. Tried to relocate up the hill, but never found anything. Tried to go back and relocate off stream, but found #153 instead, and worked on it from there. Saw Eddie at the cotnrol, apparently already on his second loop.
15. On compass, across the spur, went by #157 on the way, and straight in.
16. Easy- on compass.
17. Pretty much on compass. Took a long time to get up onthe big spur. Crossed over it and found the small reentrant and followed it up to the vicinity of the control. Peter was there.
18. Straight, staying just right of spur and around into the shallow reentrant.
19. +05:00Left of barberry then up to trail. Along trail for a while until I thought I saw the trail jct up ahead and dove into the woods. Really rocky and unpleasant. Ended up whacking my ankle. Had gone in way too early and lost big time checking all the rocks..
20. Up to t rail and around on trails.
