UNO Camping Weekend: Blue day 1

o-maps

1. Via big parking lot.
2.
3.
4. +02:30Navigated directly to within 20m but couldn't relate map to terrain within circle.
5.
6. Ran just east of greenish marshes.
7. Compass southeast out of #6 to nearest part of trail.
8. From road just before it turns south, headed virtually due east all the way to #8--perhaps 100m south of #16, through northern part of light green on hill, between two smaller marshes, used bigger marsh west of #8 (not biggest marsh NW of #8) as catching feature.
9. 1st half, NE through valley with linear marshes; 2nd half, NNE through series of vague-ish reentrants. Worked fine.

15. Direct on compass, fine tuned at top by checking contours (didn't look for trail and didn't see it, and rocks not much help either), through corner of the green, and broke into the clear at just the right spot (skill+luck). Hmmm, I have the fastest split, the ol' legs were churning up that hill.
16. N to trail with fingers crossed (had no problem picking it up), left trail at first bend (continuing straight NW across the barely-a-hill), right of 1st marsh, left of 2nd, turned more westward across shoulder of hill and the huge boulder confirmed my position.
17. Out of #16, headed slightly E of S through the green (which it was), catching trail near bend.
18. Pretty much straight line: good visibility and lots of easy to identify features to navigate by.
