Race Evaluation

US Classic Champs: Red

jeffw

1. Streamered from the triangle to the first control.
2. At the reentrant, went down to the knoll before heading up to the control.
3. At this point, I was feeling the altitude in a big way. Give me oxygen! Was a little off to the right at the fence.
4. Stayed on the left side of the hill near the top. Saw the aspens on my right, then went just left of the pit. Went down the reentrant, saw the control to my right.
5. Up the big broad spur to the hill, down to the saddle, up to the hill. Ran along the top of the L-shaped hill, down to the control.
6. +01:00Down into the reentrant. Wasn't sure were I was exactly after I crossed the road. Thought my control was at the boulder just west of the control. Dang. Saw the control to my left.
7. Up and around the fence on the right side. Hit the trail and attacked from the bend.
8. Contoured around to maintain elevation. Ran along the long clearing just west of the control and attacked from there. Easy. To me the straighter route looked frightening.
9. I kept wanting to stay to the right of the control, even though the stuff to my left looked more correct. Eventually, swung to the left into the control.
10. Went straightish into the clearing with the distinct forest boundary. Attacked from there. Probably faster to stay high and run around to the left.
11. Contoured until I hit the rocks then ran around the east side of them and attacked the control from the south.
12. Straightish running the contours (a little).
13. Up over the hill, then stayed right of the rocks.
F. Up the hill to the finish with Paula cheering me on!
