1. 290m 1:40 5 +10 11% 91.0 5:44   290m 1:40 5 +10 11% 5:44 Hah! Everybody always worries about competitors spending Saturday night "figuring out" Sunday's course from the map and control descriptions. I heard that Wyatt was doing that, so I did too. I knew where #1 was going to be, so I positioned myself off to the right at the start, and headed up the road before cutting in. Worked out pretty well!
2. 690m 7:14 10 +2:03 40% 73.3 1:00 10:28   980m 8:54 9 +2:09 32% 9:04 Didn't last, though. Some kid was out there asking me if I knew where the trail was, and I wound up taking some unmapped trail and eventually wound up at the trail junction 2/3 of the way to #8. It went okay from there, though I had a little trouble making sense of the map inside the circle.
3. 410m 4:09 13 +1:35 62% 65.5 30 10:07   1390m 13:03 9 +3:37 38% 9:23 Fine most of the way, then I drifted too far right and came into control from the south. Caught a glimpse of James Scarborough's back as he was leaving (he had caught up 3 minutes already).
4. 940m 8:42 10 +1:59 30% 79.5 20 9:15   2330m 21:45 10 +5:17 32% 9:20 Popped out from the marsh in exactly the right place, but couldn't see the rootstock because of my viewing angle, and ran up the reentrant a little way before turning back.
5. 460m 5:42 13 +2:21 70% 60.6 1:00 1:01 12:23   2790m 27:27 10 +7:38 39% 9:50 Real low visibility inside the circle -- saw the road and had to head downhill.
6. 490m 5:18 11 +1:51 54% 66.5 31 10:48   3280m 32:45 10 +9:25 40% 9:59 Took the road and headed in after the dark green -- straight might have been faster.
7. 1670m 16:28 12 +6:00 57% 69.0 20 1:04 9:51   4950m 49:13 10 +15:25 46% 9:56 Left of the line, had to slow down near the end to make sure of where I was. Went by #2 intentionally and checked the code to be sure. Still missed the control to the left by about 70 meters.
8. 195m 1:29 11 +22 33% 77.9 7:36   5145m 50:42 10 +15:47 45% 9:51 Balter caught up, and I basically just tagged along.
9. 585m 7:19 13 +3:16 81% 55.7 2:00 1:48 12:30   5730m 58:01 11 +15:33 37% 10:07 We caught Mark Voit, and he and Balter took the trail. I went straight, which I think is better, but I executed it poorly and drifted left, hitting the trail where it crosses the marsh NW of the control. Took me a bit to figure out where I was and head back in.
10. 510m 5:30 11 +2:01 58% 67.5 10 10:47   6240m 1:03:31 11 +16:44 36% 10:10
11. 320m 3:37 11 +1:33 75% 58.4 45 11:18   6560m 1:07:08 10 +17:59 37% 10:14
12. 490m 4:11 5 +29 13% 92.2 8:32   7050m 1:11:19 10 +17:46 33% 10:06 Straight.
13. 555m 5:18 10 +1:42 47% 74.7 9:32   7605m 1:16:37 10 +18:11 31% 10:04 Straight. Mook caught up as I was leaving.
14. 210m 1:55 9 +31 37% 79.4 9:07   7815m 1:18:32 10 +18:25 31% 10:02 Arrived a step ahead of Mook.
15. 375m 3:59 10 +55 30% 82.3 10:37   8190m 1:22:31 10 +18:44 29% 10:04 Mook appeared to head right, I went left to stay clear of the uncrossables. No sign of him when I arrived.
16. 620m 5:47 10 +58 20% 83.4 9:19   8810m 1:28:18 10 +19:28 28% 10:01 Took field to NW corner. Mook caught up halfway through the field.
17. 540m 3:47 9 +47 26% 82.4 7:00   9350m 1:32:05 10 +19:49 27% 9:50 Mook was pulling away, but halfway there he started limping and I passed him.
18. 400m 7:53 13 +5:22 213% 34.7 3:00 4:10 19:42   9750m 1:39:58 10 +23:58 32% 10:15 Drifted left, compounded the problem by misreading features, and hit the stream 200 m south of control. Did a reasonable job of recovering from there. Eric Bone caught up at the control.
19. 890m 10:01 14 +4:07 70% 60.1 3:00 1:51 11:15   10640m 1:49:59 10 +27:50 34% 10:20 Straight out to trail, could just barely see Eric when he hit the junction. Made it to the circle okay, but couldn't see the marsh, and wound up circling around before coming back to basically the same place.
20. 540m 4:57 11 +1:27 41% 73.8 9:10   11180m 1:54:56 10 +29:17 34% 10:16 Nice leg, had fun reading the contours, and caught myself at the green to turn toward the control. Carl Childs caught up (9 minutes, I think).
21. 480m 3:04 12 +43 30% 79.3 6:23   11660m 1:58:00 11 +29:57 34% 10:07 Straight.
