Orienteering 15:00 [3]

Utter failure. I started this extremely narrow corridor-O but almost instantly got lost. Most of this time was spent standing around and trying to relocate before I baled back to the start.

Orienteering 46:38 [3]

Attempt Number 2. I got all the way around this time, but it was extremely slow. I used a lot of compass and stopped frequently to make sure I was still in contact with the map. The corridor was probably less than half as wide as any corridor-O I've done before.

Running warm up/down 3:20 [3]

Up. Joggin' to the start.

Orienteering 38:35 [3]
11c

A course which was much less than 3.8 k. My sense of distance just seemed to be off, and I blame Catching Features.

Orienteering tempo 25:25 [3]

Same course as before, but this time the aim was to do it more like a tempo. Erin met me at number six, and I got sucked off course with him going to number ten, but other than that it was simply cleaner and a lot faster than before.

Down. Back to the car.

Orienteering warm up/down 29:27 [3] ***
8c

It was more like an orienteering cool-down because it was at a very easy pace, and the idea was to just establish a flow, and to focus on reading backwards from the control. I forgot to read backwards on a couple of them, but for the most part it was perfectly clean and easy.

Note
(rest day)

It's really hot. I'm in the basement and almost sweating.

Orienteering 33:13 [3]

Corridor-O. Had a little trouble in the beginning because I confused some re-entrants, but after I found where I was it went pretty well. It was at an easy jog pace, though (although I managed to run up most of the hills), and I wasn't using my compass as much as I probably should have been. I need to work on this in the future.

Orienteering 26:20 [3] ***
7c

Downhill memory spider. Memorize a leg at the top of the hill, run fast down to the control, jog back up, repeat seven times with different controls. I almost messed up the seventh because I forgot the actual feature the control was on, but I had been running straight enough to hit it (like the previous six). This time also includes a cool-down, but not the time spent memorizing each leg.

I raced the tenth graders... it wasn't fair.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [3]

Up

Running intervals 9:24 [3]

This was the amount of time spent running hard in the intervals. 3 Loops around a field (First 3: 1:07 each), then one loop on a trail up a hill and along the top before jogging down (First about 1:11). Repeat a second time (3 Loops: 1:12, 1:12, 1:13) (Trail: 1:15), and then repeat a third time... only don't because I was on the verge of collapsing after the second. The intervals were not supposed to be a certain amount of time, but to be maximum effort, so I didn't know how to pace myself. Also, on two of the first three field loops, and one of the second three, Erin had us memorize a leg and repeat it back to him after the loop.

Running warm up/down 3:00 [3]

Most of my rest in between intervals was walking, but I guess I had about three of slow jogging. It was probably closer to five, but I'm saying three.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [3]

Cool-down after driving back to Erin's (really short drive). Still exhausted.

Orienteering race 1:13:14 [3] *** 7.37 km (9:57 / km)
19c

Not happy with just about anything today. The map was iffy, not sure what exactly the scale was. If it was on the map, it was on the ground... maybe not in exactly the same was as the map presented it, though, and if it was on the ground, I had no idea whether or not it would actually be on the map. It was also a 20 control course, but I somehow managed to skip number eight...

I knew I would have at least one bad race soon after team trials, and I'm glad this was it, but gosh it was ugly.
