After a pretty lazy morning (we are super impressive at losing time) hiked in around lunchtime and set up camp. Very easy 5k hike made slightly more exciting by me falling flat on my face and cutting my hand and by a friendly brown snake.

Lunch in the sun then out for a run. On the map it was a fun looking 8k ridge run to Mt Speculation and back. In reality the first 2-3k I could run then it got pretty rocky and James flew down some hills and I went down at a more careful pace.

We'd been out 2 hours at Mt Buggery and probably should have turned round then but decided to press on. About 500m later I rolled my left ankle pretty nastily and had a "oh shit I've screwed this up we're 6k from camp, which is 5k from the car, which is 75k from a town of 3 houses" then realised I could put some weight on it so shut up. Made a pretty sensible decision to turn around though, which meant we then had time to go up to Mt Howitt. Pretty speccy.

Think going to Mt Magdala might have been an easier run, but this was an amazing ridge to be on, one day we'll get the whole way!.

Only having to hike in 5k to camp meant it felt ok to have a rather elaborate camp meal of gnocchi, blue cheese and sage sauce and a pretty nice bottle of wine. Must be one of the nicest places I've camped in Vic.

Resolved to buy a PLB if I'm going to keep putting myself in remote places. The 2 snakes and ankle freaked me a little.
