Orienteering 1:10:00 [3]

Balfour control site checking. Feeling yesterday, so really hard work today. The place reeking with the smell of deer.

Road Running 2:41:09 [3] 33.02 km (4:53 / km) +177m 4:45 / km
shoes: Hoka Red

Kicked things off with a 10k on local Nairn roads prior to the Nairn Half. Was looking for somewhere around 50 mins for that. Right on the nail.

Wasn't running the race competitively or at least that wasn't the purpose - just wanting the distance - but I'm too competitive to ignore the fact that it was a race after all. Got into the desired pace from the beginning and just stuck in there. Nice breeze on the back going out the way but it turned into a raging headwind from half distance. Was reeling folk in especially from that point and there weren't really enough people to get much shelter for long. Pleased to feel pretty strong throughout although got out sprinted in the games field as we had to dodge the marching pipe band.
Maybe 1st v60 but who knows...Later: 2nd v60 actually behind Graeme Laing...he of yesteryear marathon fame...only beat me by 10 mins :-( (actually sandwiched between two marathon has been super superstars as I beat ColinY)

Gentle warm down for a km or so along the beach. Overall a nice confidence boost.

Nice paddle in the Moray Firth after.

Trail / Road Run 1:31:52 [3] 16.77 km (5:29 / km) +267m 5:04 / km
shoes: Hoka Red

Prevaricated substantially before doing this. Had to be done though. Didnt really make up my mind where I was going until half way to Potties down the MoC road.
To DW; then up to Shooting Greens; Feughside Inn; Finzean; Farm Shop; School; then down the road home. Closing that loop on foot for the first time ever.
Caught by a sudden and unexpected rain shower at SG, for which it was worth sheltering under a tree; encouraged by FW waving his arms out of his car window in Finzean (at least I assume it was he) and then pottered up and over the hill.
Didnt feel too spritely but was ok.
Weird and occasional pain (maybe thats too strong a word) in left little toe. First felt it on Monday and thought it was a stone in my shoe..it wasn't). One to watch.

Wednesday Aug 15 #

Trail 1:09:48 [3] 13.03 km (5:21 / km) +108m 5:09 / km
shoes: Saucony Progrid (Orange)

Birkenhill Farm track to DW; to a km or so beyond Potties then back, but taking the straight track home through Criagmore; finishing round the community path.
Included 8 x 2.5/1.5 mins. Felt good.

Tuesday Aug 14 #

Note

Weary today but generally coping with the long runs ok. Another couple of weeks of them then start winding things back somewhat.

Wander round Commonty / Torqu loop with T. Lovely early evening light and really warm but bracken pretty rampant.

Monday Aug 13 #

Trail 2:23:43 [3] 28.01 km (5:08 / km) +260m 4:54 / km
shoes: Hoka Red

Bridge of Ess to the foot of Mt Keen via Halfway Hut. Brief stop for sustenance then all the way back....being nicely downhill.
Good chat all the way with SW. And no rain.
