Well, i started off and I was sore... I then got into the flow of things and was orienteering away pretty well. On the way to 5 i stopped to remove my thermal and then got very confused with where I was, eventually assumed where I was and got under way again. No 6 seemed very high, 7 was fine then the creme de la creme. No 8... I contoured around the hill perfectly, crossed the track, hit the flat ground and I could see my control on the marsh just in front of me. Spiked it ouvit and contuined on my way slogging up to number 9.... Only, the number 8 wasn't my number 8. I spiked a marsh, which was 20m before my control - my was on a rock so it was a FAIL. Shit happens.
I contuined on my way spikey spikey... Roar passed me out going to 14, completely pushing it in the deep heather. I let him go - wasn't too worried. On the way to 18, going up the hill I caught him and ran past - we ran the last few controls together before I made a break for the finish with 100m to go... Legs feeling much better... no wait.. thats a lie - cramp crampy!

Up and down Camaderry in Glendo.
Eoin Pearse hammered the pace from the off. Gerard Butler, Dermuid Collins and myself went with him. Heading up the trail I knew the pace was too fast for me but i hung on. Eoin got a gap and slowly Dermuid and Gerard pulled away leaving me in no mans land. I suffered up the climb. Painfully forcing myself to keep running. As I passed Gerry Brady a bit of the way up he shouted encouragement and said keep pushing, they'll come back to you. I was at my limit. Forcing myself to get up the god dam mountain. Up ahead of me I say Gerard gain ground as they hit the rough stuff. Closely followed by Dermuid. Eoin had lost the lead and I was tracking him. Going up through the boggy stuff I was down to a forced walk. With legs burning I kept it up. As I reached the last small kick before the summit Gerard came blasting down past me. It was now game on. As i got closer, Dermuid was on the descent. I could see the cairn... Eoin ran past... Touched the cairn and it was time to throw down what I had left. Down the muddy bank, cutting the gap on Eoin. Kept the pace up. I knew fear would get to him eventually. Fear gets everyone eventually. All that i taught about was getting down and closing the gap.
Eoin slowed as we hit the slop, I accelerated - it was commented at the bottom that I had lunged off a big drop into bog and contuined to hammer the pace, i don't remember it. After fighting hard I was on his shoulder.
Next up the line was Dermuid... I had a target on his back and I was slowly closing the gap. He took a wrong turn and I screamed at him. He hung a left and was back on the trail, but I had gained another place. I could see Gerard a long way down the slop.
I kept up the pace, turning my legs over as fast as they could, surviving. We got back onto the fire trail. I was attacking every corner. I had the advantage - Gerard couldn't see me. I could sense him up the trail. One S bend down, then another, and another. Closing the gap, but still Dermuid hung on. I took a corner sharply, Dermuid attempted to get by me but I accelerated... Bang. The world went arse ways as I skidded and hit the ground hard, cutting my knees, I bounced up and tried to close the gap. I could feel the blood running down my leg.
I knew the gap was too big to close completely but I was dammed if I was givng up without a fight. Dermuid still kept the gap at about 10m. In the end the gap was too much and Dermuid held on for second. What made it worse was that I could see Gerard finishing up the trail.
Gerard ran one hell of a race and used his asoume climbing power to great affect. He had the gap at the end and deserved the win.
(wonder if I can get him to join Donore :P)
Eoin finished behind me in 4th with Conway just behind him again... DIT won the team prize which was sweet.
Happy trails :)
