Wednesday Mar 10

Note

Turns out I was second on Monday - by same jr who beat me comprehensively on Sunday (as he should).

Weights 1:00:00 [3]

After spending the day reading public transport incident reports, I have come to the conclusion that there are a lot of pissed bogans in Melbourne.

Tuesday Mar 9

Note

Post weekend dehydration weight was 55.1kg on the Ikea bathroom scales. Goal is to maintain that weight for reals.

Monday Mar 8

orienteering race 43:00 [5]

Had a pretty clean run and ended up winning by 7 minutes. Which just goes to show there is no logic to training and racing.

Sunday Mar 7

orienteering race 1:01:00 [5]

Bit of a wiggle when I saw a control on a vague gully and ran to it on the off chance it was mine. Turned out my vague gully was further up the big gully, just as I suspected. Ended up coming second on the course.

cycling 3:30:00 [4]

Actual time in the saddle was over four and a half hours, as the track petered out just at the point where I'd kind of hit the wall (after nearly 3 hours, at least half of which was climbing) with no water left. Forced Dad and Jeff to follow the farm boundary, rather than retrace our route which in retrospect would have been quicker (but more tiring). Phone coverage meant we could get anxious 'WTFAY?' texts from mum. As we followed yet another false lead I recalled the sage words of Leo that morning: 'Are you going off on Gradad's crazy scheme?' Actually would have been OK if we'd just followed the rough boundary track and not tried every offshoot that looked vaguely like it might be heading in the right direction. Let's just say that when we hit the access road (that we should have been on in the 1st place) I was very happy. Even the giant tiger snake on the rocky descent didn't phase me. But was a v. good thing we had a tail wind for the last 8km along the highway.

Saturday Mar 6

orienteering race 32:00 [5]

Stuff up with my control card holder led to a junior taking my map (harder course) while I was finding a replacement. Tried to chase her down with the right map, but she was already out of sight. Ran back to the start, took another map, started my course...and mispunched the 1st control. Might have walked a few of those later hills had I known.
