Track babyyy

3 x 500 (300 shuffle), 1200 shuffle, 3 x 300 (500 shuffle)
82, 81, 82, 45 low, 44 low, 43 low

Wow I’m actually pretty happy with that considering it’s the first bit of speed/track I’ve done in a couple months. However hard I tried on the last rep, the lads wouldn’t let me past. These track boys have some dirty tactics to make you run long, last rep I had to run in lane 2. Also was the only one not in spikes.

Very tired this morning as I was woken up by the ear piercing scream of a 3 year old. Treated myself by leaving school after third period to revise at home. Good news is that’s school done until June, just exam leave now.

Some massaging and recovery due before flat n fast 5km. Needed to show my face at the track though it’s been too long. Will kinda just see where it goes but sub 16 would be nice. Hoping to get dragged along by some quick boys.

Also pretty confused looking at the splits to see that the HR is lower on the reps than the recovery. Weird.

Run 12:22 intensity: (13 @1) + (3:26 @2) + (8:27 @3) + (16 @4) 2.0 km (6:12 / km)

ahr:134 max:172

So tired that I got home and fell asleep on the sofa on top bertie rather than the other way round for once. Took some hardstyle to wake me up enough to get out.

Stopped on the crags for 10 mins to stare into the distance and watch the sun go down. Very beautiful moment, not a cloud in sight, city glowing yellow/orange... until I looked around and got imposter syndrome when I saw that out of the ~30 people up there I was the only single person. Didn’t want to get in the way of any proposals so plodded on home.

Intense running 22:37 intensity: (2:15 @2) + (9:46 @3) + (10:36 @4) 5.65 km (4:00 / km) +3m 4:00 / km
ahr:166 max:184

5 min Thresh/Tempo (2 min jog), 2x1km (2 min walk/jog), 2x2min Thresh (1 min jog)

First 5 felt pretty nice, the rest felt not so nice. Was too fast on the 5, wanted to make the kms the main focus but couldn’t get the legs turning enough. The 2x2 was meant to be a five but felt too shit haha.

In my defence I did have problems sleeping last night. Don’t know if it was stress/anxiety related because it was the same before selection races and my first exam is a week away. Didn’t help that once I finally started to nod off my asthma came on pretty badly. Normally it’s just throat closing up and shortness of breath but this time I had a dry throat and was coughing too. Have started taking the brown inhaler again.

Anyway no asthma problems in this just really tired from first day back at school and revision. Legs still a bit dead too. No pain though.

Run 23:26 intensity: (40 @2) + (22:45 @3) + (1 @4) 4.35 km (5:24 / km)
ahr:159 max:170

Run 58:19 intensity: (1:36 @1) + (52:15 @2) + (4:28 @3) 10.45 km (5:35 / km) +116m 5:17 / km
ahr:142 max:158

Grass recovery
HR kept on jumping from 140-160 randomly. Think it’s just the watch. Getting this done a bit earlier to try and make my evenings more productive. Pretty pain free, nice.

BOC relay INT B team on mens prem - MP (w7)

Punched 128 instead of 129 - https://www.boc.routegadget.co.uk/rg2/#57&cour...

Aw man. Trying (and often failing) to be really safe on this one with stopping after every control to get direction right. Doug flew round and put me out in 3rd. Euan Tryner passed me at 1, he was going to 2 and I thought he was going to 1 so followed him. Yes, went to 2 before 1. Quite a biggie on reflection but it didn’t seem like it in the moment. Next few just stuck to the indistinct paths and trods because I don’t trust the mapping of all that messy bushy crap. Right #7. Spent quite a while looking at this after I downloaded, mainly because I couldn’t for the life of me find the bag for maps. It was such a short routine control and the only control I didn’t check the code for. Came out on compass but was quickly stopped in my tracks by going thigh deep in bog. Some surprisingly strong suction meant it was quite a comical effort to get unstuck. This probably put me off line. Found a patch of green and a negative feature with a control in it and thought the picture was so concrete that it couldn’t not be mine. Will Gardiner caught me up a bit before the long leg. Tried to keep with him but took some stupid lines which meant I got stuck in brambles. When we got to the control before the long leg he was closer than I expected. He went straight. Straight to me looked disgusting and I really wasn’t in the mood for it so I took a rogue but safe track/ride route round the to the left. Didn’t look like anyone else did the same and I ended up running quite a bit further than most people. A few more scrappy controls and I was pleasantly surprised that I had only conceded 2 places to send Ben out in 5th (but not actually). Especially because I saw Wozzle and someone else rummaging for 4 about 10m from it as I came out of it.

Good experience to get sent out far up like that, think 2nd leg is my kinda thing, cheers Doug! (And sorry team)

Run 4:18 intensity: (12 @1) + (2:01 @2) + (2:05 @3) 0.59 km (7:18 / km)
ahr:147 max:159

Run 6:30 intensity: (10 @1) + (4:24 @2) + (1:56 @3) 0.95 km (6:50 / km)
ahr:144 max:156

8 PM

Note

After looking at relay splits I would’ve been 4th quickest on 2nd leg. Maybe quickest is not the right word. 4th best time. I was still 4.5 mins off of euan though. Bit of a bummer but I’ll check my codes next time.
