Note
(rest day)

knee is veryyy sore but it’s not really an injury it’s literally just a lump and a massive bruise so should be fine in a couple days. also coughing loads and a very sore throat this morning but can’t really complain, at least it’s happening after the weekend. vision was really bad last night but i think i was just tired, it’s fine this morning

what
honestly might be worse than yesterday. really not a fan of orienteering after this weekend. made a mess of #1, literally not a clue what happened i think i just was going slightly the wrong direction and missed it. realised i was wrong when i hit the marsh near #2, went back and asked janette if there was a control in a ditch behind her and she saved me :)) found issy at #2 and then we got lost at #3 together. next few were fine, was basically doing talk-o with issy this whole time. then we had different gaffles for #10 so i went off the path before her. got #10 fine, then it all went horrifically wrong. can quite confidently say the issue here was me not looking at my compass enough (at all..). thought the veg boundary would be a bit more obvious, spent what felt like 15 mins fighting through heather which was very sore on my knee from yesterday :( then eventually came out on a path but had absolutely no clue where i was, went along a bit and found some buildings and worked out where i was (completely the wrong place). from there found #11 fine other than a faceplant in a bog that ruined my new pink socks rip. after this i had lost any motivation and honestly have no clue how i found #13 which was on the smallest boulder i’ve ever seen. glad to hand over to eilidh before the mini mass start tbh. team came 5th in the end though (not sure me and daisy helped much though, i came in 8th..). not a good weekend for me, really not had very much fun at all in the forest. hopefully next weekend will be more enjoyable.

british long
hell
made a big mistake on #1 and pretty much lost the will to live here. not thriving through all the fallen trees, then immy caught me 6 mins at #4 and i just didn’t have the energy to keep up. proceeded to mess up #5, then izzy caught me 9 mins at the drinks point while i was mid complaining to ewan about how i had had enough already. failed to keep up with izzy, then had covered my map in mud so was struggling to read the close together controls at #8 and #9. actually enjoyed the big path leg, decided to try a bit harder for the second half of the course but that lasted until the hill. motivational words from ewan mid long leg was nice but then on the way from #10 to #11 whacked my knee on a tree, stood still for a minute then decided i would be fine. went to #11 and thought i had gone too far and was very very close to retiring but then unfortunately i found my control and had to keep going. finished the rest partly with alex and conrad walking/jogging with a very sore knee and really not enjoying myself. heard the announcement of daisy third while i was struggling and that made me a little bit happier, very proud :)) in conclusion not fun, not good, hated it. have iced my knee but it still hurts, my physio aunt says i’ll be fine though so can’t be too bad.

york uni sprint
hmmm feeling okay about this. very clean, couple of tiny hesitations but honestly don’t think i lost more than 15s on mistakes. don’t think i took any really bad routes either? main time loss was definitely just not running fast enough but not much i can do about that now. almost caught the m16 1 min ahead of me as well which was a confidence boost. happy with that though, just need to do more intervals clearly

Running warm up/down 24:21 [2] 1.75 km (13:55 / km) +2m 13:50 / km

vulcan park sprint
said i was going to jog and managed that for all of three controls when this fell runner guy appeared behind me and i wasn’t having it. turns out he was doing the short rip. slowed down a bit when i realised but still not quite zone two oops. good fun though and felt very smooth other than crossing roads. highlight was absolutely this woman standing in her doorway saying ‘you’ll get wet lass’ as if i hadn’t noticed

wythop woods with isaac, dan and toby (sophie gave up after 4km…)
‘not too hilly’ was used to describe this route, not sure about that but otherwise good fun and feeling absolutely fine so all is well :)) not a fan of the tiny paths dan was finding though… some of which didn’t exist…
