Holme Fell Gallopen - Brown
Physically I felt pretty good and I wasn’t struggling in any of the climbs but technically I was poor, letting myself drift off my line too often. First 6 controls were good with no real mistakes except a 10 second miss on 6. 7 was the first long leg going onto the open fell and I wasn’t paying attention to the contours enough, not realising how much I had to climb and drifted left of my line coming out way below the control losing 1min 30. 8 was the big long leg across the open fell and was executed pretty well if a little scrappy in the circle. 9 I drifted a little too low trying to avoid any height gain and lost 30 seconds. 10 and 11 were fine but for 12 I again drifted too low subsequently getting stuck in the rocks below the control losing a minute. Accurate for 13, 14 and 15 then 16 hesitated for 20 seconds trying to figure out where the knoll was. Pretty much perfect through from 17 to the finish. Overall the race wasn’t a disaster but still scrappy throughout losing a lot more time than i would’ve liked. Physically I still felt I was lacking speed especially up the hills but I expected that. Happy to find I felt no pain in my Achilles despite the rough terrain so hopefully I won’t have to worry about it in future.

Very slow long one in the hills with Jamie. We’re meant to be checking out areas for the beer trail today but got a bit carried away. Weather was grim but still enjoyable.
