This race was so close to being a squeaky clean race with a squeaky clean time, but a 10 minute bobble at #96 sorta bungled that (somehow still winning though *shrugs*). This map is so cool, but the 1:6000 scale really kept throwing me off throughout the race, and the occasional unmapped vegetation surprised me at some annoying times. That being said, it was some incredibly fast terrain with some incredibly detailed features, so a ton of fun in my books.

I planned it out so the super fast controls were all at the beginning, so the first 40ish minutes were literally heaven. Yes, I almost overshot 37 and 53 because of the whack scale, but once it started clicking, it was delightful to be able to cover so much ground so quickly. Did I mention... it was flat and allowed you to run a 5:19 min/km pace for the first 40ish minutes? The large gravel off-trail really made trail-running optimal, although busting through some thickets won me some nice freaked out looks. Pro Tip: If you wear gear with the American flag all over it and "USA" slapped right on your back, you can get away with pretty much anything in Central Cali...

Number 55 was where I realized that maybe bringing along a compass might have helped (I left it behind today and @ Sunol because it gets demagnetized by my phone) when I started off with a whack heading, but except for this happening again en route to 52 (I hit the small trail and realized that I didn't know if it was going the right direction, which was a Yellow level dum-dum moment and extremely embarrassing) and some awkward tree climbing, it was an extremely clean race up until the middle gravel hell-land. I spiked 92 even though a literal tree had fallen on the knoll and covered it, and I felt relatively confident about 96. I figured that the gravel hills were making me run slower, so my mind sorta switched back into 1:7500 or 1:10000 mode, and I ended up making a spiffing beauty of a parallel error just northwest of 96. There was some unmapped vegetation that made the parallel error work perfectly, and it was a while before I finally overcompensated and realized where I messed up. It's a bit of a bummer, since I definitely could have made it under 90 minutes (which would've been a fun flex for a 2 hour Score-O), but hey, mistakes happen. Overall, this race felt great, and although I still need to work on speed consistency and longer-range running, it's a step forward.

Also... I can confirm that the Folsom Chipotle has no raccoons.
