with flan up majura. My fave thing at the moment. Both of us on time at 5.30am but no sunrise because thick cloud cover. Back not doing so well today - R glute and top of hammy affected. Tried a minute of running

Running (parkrun) 10:00 [3]

Mt Ainslie parkrun with Brad and plenty of familiar faces. Back was great on the bike ride there, ok with walking but never managed to enjoy running. Did many short intervals (all the up hills) and time is a guess. Apart from that a most enjoyable morning and thoroughly enjoyed seeing many Speedygeese, Frappe crowd and Bec o'kneel. Very very humid and sweaty

flan running bit late so I had time to stretch back muscles and do front core before leaving. Getting up early much easier today

Mt Majura dawn ascent with flan. Easier to get up and get moving this morning and I'm enjoying the habit. When it's over 40C for 4 days in a row it's a great way to not go crazy. Overcast and darker after storms and lightning last night, bush looked fresh and green again, and we went faster. 29:45 to the top compared to 31:30 the last few times. Not that we're trying for speed. Had to stop and listen to the faint Oom ooms of a tawny frogmouth still on night duty - haven't heard that on a morning run before.
Did 3 one minute runs on way up, first felt bad in R butt, by third was not terrible. On way down actually started to feel symmetrical and good. Just don't overdo it on a group run on weekend!
10 AM

Note

I thought an enormous log had dropped onto my roof. Couldn't find log. Turns out it was an earthquake at around 10am. Dramatic end to a dramatic heatwave week. And I thought stepping on a brown snake in my garden last week was drama enough. I hope next week is boring

An even better pre dawn walk up Majura with Flan - this time I wasn't late, and we saw the sunrise after we reached the top. Flan full of energy and bounce which is incredible, treatment finishes next tuesday and she seems to have hardly felt it. I still can't keep up. Spine probably bit better again but only able to have a short run on an uphill section. Tried again on way down and the R sciatica said no.
Delightful to go up in the cool air and predawn light, it was dark when alarm went off and I wavered a bit but reminded myself that the more I do it the easier it gets, and nothing fixes my back like walking up hills. Only 1 cup of tea beforehand - good time saver.
Took 31:30 to make top which is exactly the same as last time I think.

Came home and did hours of gardening unitl it got so hot that I had my vision disappear for half a second. Quickly got myself in for a cold shower. I'll call it an hour of vigorous muscle stuff.
Watered my garden, the guerrilla garden, my neighbours garden (some with watering can), rigged up more shade, cut back the terrible bamboo patch behind the house, moved large veg pots into shade and dug them in, removed net from big apricot, set up extra water for birds, removed one and a half rats from under plum tree and composted, added more to compost to cover, did some wet mulching of veg patch, caught and killed sap-sucking-citrus-bugs from top of lemon tree, harvested produce for lunch, bottled some wild plums (which are delicious without any sugar at all, glad I didn't put any in this time) and looked under bonnet of car for J.
Ok now I can see why I was out so long and got light headed. Lunch tastes amazing, how I love you, avocados!

Cycling 15:00 [2]

Great idea to go for a ride as the evening cooled. A few spots of rain didn't last even a second on my arms. It got a bit heavier and I thought this won't soak in to the soil, won't make a difference, feels nice. Then it got heavier and heavier. Rain is so fun to ride in when it's been hot, until it starts hitting so hard your face hurts. Hail! Darted back to shops to get milk where they probably had to mop up after me. Still fun tho.

Down to local ovals after some core and back stretching. Spine nerves affected all the way down to R heel at the moment, pain areas are glute and hammy on R side only. Did lots of drills around pond, where some idiot has introduced duckweed so that the water is entirely covered. That's certain to kill most things, except mosquitoes. Back to ovals for 5 times one minute of med pace running, trying to move well. Wasn't worse afterwards.
Went to slyfox and climbed tree again - cross training? Good for my arm strength! I'm just glad I can get off the ground.
Picked a huge bag of wild plums and rode home.
