Cumbrian Galoppen - Holme Fell

Nice and scrappy to start, losing time to several controls near the start (1, 5, 7) by generally just being a bit rubbish. Kicked on a bit on the long leg (and only had to stop to tie my laces twice) but took a bad line going low and lost more time.

Went walkabout on the way to 9 in the clag, but again, didn't lose huge time and continued the run's theme of leaking time left, right and centre. Glimpsed a wild Pedly up the hill to 11 so push on a bit, (faffed in the circle for a bit at 11) and then nipped past him to 12.

Revitalised by this, powered on and ran quite well around the last bit, right up until close to the last control, where I slipped and nicely smacked my right knee on a rock. Spent a while writhing in pain in the bracken, before hobbling on, but quickly returned to the scene of the twack to collect my watch (that I'd managed to break the strap of) and my compass remains (that I finally polished off after a few weeks of running with a nice crack in it).

Anyway, knee really quite sore afterwards and quite painful to even walk. Will see how it is but will probably have to have a few days rest to let it pass. Bit annoying, but I think I'll survive.

Also, need to buy shoe tape.

Some Dale Park loops and a line course. A bit all over the place initially, but improved as I went along - maybe due to actually getting better or maybe just thanks to visiting the same controls a few times.

A cheeky trip up the Old Man of Coniston with the EUOC boys in the clag. The weather got pretty foul as we were going round the ridge making things a bit grim with things getting cold and slippy and we weren't exactly over equipped. Once we hit the bigger path straight back to the bus, we got moving a bit and had some funny, if slighlty delusional, chat, but spirits were high by the time we got back. Pretty glad we did this.
