Orienteering race 1:50:00 [3]
Norwegian long distance simulation.
Very nice fjell running for the first 6k or so then a pretty technical butterfly, at least at 1:15k. Then a devilish long route choice. I ran left, climbing in the beginning and followed some goat tracks down a gully where I lost a contact lens. I had forgotten how miserable that is. I had to slow right down and had trouble reading the map as well seeing where to put my feet on the technical terrain. In the end I bailed out on the 3rd last control and jogged home. Since I started second, I got to see Olav, Audun and Anders run by up close. They are fast but not crazy fast. More than anything, they just don't slow down, whether they're running hills, marshes or green. I suspect Olav will do very well in the long in a couple of weeks.
Orienteering 1:05:00 [2]
Dropped Sandy, Holger, Kasper and mom off at the airport then took a trip over to Stavsjoen, the terrain immediately NW of the qualification terrain.
Very tired now but had a good time on the technical terrain, reading at 1:15k. Probably would have been frustrated running at speed and making mistakes.
Done for the week, now to rest, recover and reflect. Picked up a bag of 5 boller and a litre of choco to get me started.
Orienteering 1:10:00 [3]
Ran a course by the Swedish team on Iladalen. Dark green areas with wonky pine trees that apparently not relevant for the final terrain in Granasen, just 5km south. Managed to miss a couple of flags on not being careful enough on direction leaving the flag before, both short legs... Also, some route choice problems balancing faster running and longer distance vs. shorter, less climb but riskier attack.
Legs felt pretty heavy today. Even though the sun is shining, the marshes are pretty full.
Orienteering 1:20:00 [2]
Did a training exercise immediately north of the M/L final / relay terrain.
Started with a corridor exercise and I was initially quite skeptical since I haven't done one in years. It turns out that you really have to be tuned in to the map and small details and direction constantly. I had to take it really slow to stay on the corridor and I think I wandered more than a few times.
Finished the course with a short middle type training.
Very tired now and still have a long distance race tomorrow...
