Orienteering race 57:10 [5] 4.7 mi (12:10 / mi)

SOL 1 at Darnaway. Didn't feel very well at all before I started and was wondering if I would finish the race. Once I got going I was okay but very sluggish and ground to a halt at every hill and section of rougher terrain. Wish I knew what the problem was but things aren't going well at the moment.

A few small mistakes and hesitations -

Ran past No 1 and lost 1 minute! I saw the flag but it was below me and I thought it was in a re-entrant so kept going. Thought something was wrong and turned back and then realised it was my control. It seemed to be a long way down the hill?

Struggling in the terrain so took the long track options whenever possible which I think cost me time.

Too far left on No 10.

Mis-read what was up and what was down going in to No 14 and lost a bit of time.

Generally just leaking time on others all the way round. Oh well.

Alness Parkrun on a very different type of day to the last time I ran here in July 2019. Last July it was warm, calm and dry but this time the section in the wood was a sea of mud, there was ice on the section before the underpass and there was a gale blowing in our faces from the underpass to the end of the pier. Not a day for fast times. Ran okay but still not feeling it yet.

Off work today so recovery run from the house in the latest deluge on the trails in the woods round The Oilfields and Craigends. Paths and grass sections now a sea of mud.

Track session with the athletic club at Linwood Track. Track icing up as the session went on. First track session for a few weeks and still not running well so was running embarrassingly slowly.

Session was 5 x ((400m (100m easy jog recovery in 1 min) + 600m (200m in 90 secs easy jog recovery)). Only did the 400's and the first 400 of the 600's. Can only get better (I hope!).

Run round the Run the Park After Dark course putting out the markers. Really cold and ice starting to appear in various places on the course.

Run round the Run the Park After Dark course through the floods and the ever increasing sections of ice! Had to run on the grass at times to avoid it.

No-one from my group running so ran round on my own at what I thought was a tempo pace - maybe too fast?
