Caw - 2nd
Let Matt, Jardine, and John Heneghan go on the roads as legs were feeling heavy so wanted to ease into it. As the road steepened I started to move away from Josh Hartley and John Helme and had a gap going on to the fell. Trotted away at my own pace up the Knott and actually started to feel really good and managed to reel in the first three a little. Just tried to keep a good pace on the flat marshy section but probably lost a fair bit of ground to Matt and John the bottom of Caw (Josh had taken the route to the right so couldn't see his progress).
Legs still feeling good on the lower slopes as I saw the other two walking. Closed in a fair bit and got to about 30 secs of John Heneghan but unfortunately I ran out of runnable hill. The gap pretty much stayed the same to the top and Jardine swung in from the right about 50m from the trig. Summited with Josh and set off on my line to the right but for some reason I bailed and tucked back in left. Got a bit stuck in crags and some boulders but nothing major and as we emerged at the bottom of Caw John was still about 30 secs ahead and Matt just a blip on the horizon. Picked some good lines through the flat section with Josh in tow before he lead onto the Knott for the final descent. Pushed hard on the fell to get a gap by the road which turned out to be enough. John H took a duff line going high on the flatter section so managed to leap frog into 2nd.
Cracking race with the legs feeling good just trotting out a decent rhythm. Hopefully will bode well for the longer races coming up.
