That’s Tasmania the island state of Australia, venue for the 2015 Oceania Orienteering Championships and the first three races of the 2015 International Orienteering Federation World Cup. Mix that up with a relaxed post championships “Hobart Shorts” series and it is the place to be for orienteering in 2015.

Where else can you find an island at the “ edge of the world” that has an abundance of fantastic orienteering terrain, UNESCO listed natural heritage featuring some of the globe’s last temperate wilderness areas, wonderful food and wine, superb white sandy beaches with lichen covered granite headlands, a vibrant arts and cultural scene and great hospitality.

The Championships Carnival will commence in Tasmania’s second city of Launceston. With it vibrant food and café scene, access to some of Tasmania’s finest colonial villages and premier wine regions, combined with frequent flights from the intentional hubs of Melbourne and Sydney it is the perfect place to start your Tasmanian orienteering adventure

Mid week, the Championships will move on to the wonderful East Coast of Tasmania centred on the holiday town of Swansea. With views across to the magnificent Freycinet National Park, a true Tassie icon and home to The Hazards and the astoundingly beautiful Wineglass Bay, it’s the perfect location to round out the week. In between the Championships events there make sure your check out the local cafes, local produce, sample brilliant cool climate wines from boutique vineyards, explore hidden natural gems and kick back and enjoy the relaxed Tasmanian holiday lifestyle.

And if that’s not enough, get on down to Hobart, Tasmania’s capital city, for the “Hobart Shorts”. A relaxed series of orienteering events in and around the city make it the perfect reason to wind down and enjoy what Lonely Planet recently described as one of the top 10 must visit cities. Wind down between the races enjoying Hobart’s vibrant food and café scene, check out the edgy MONA for an arts experience to remember or just wander around the waterfront and Salamanca Place.
