This race will include up to 2 miles of flat-water paddling on the Allegheny River, 12+ miles of biking on bike trails and roads, and 6+ miles of running. It will be run in a Rogaine format in which control points in the form of orienteering style punches will be retrieved on foot, bike, and in boat--in any order. The value of each point will depend upon how difficult it is to retrieve. Difficulty can be determined by distance, navigation, or mode of transportation. Total possible value of points retrieved will be 50. A total of three hours will be allotted to retrieve the points and the winner will be the team that collects the most points in the least time. Anyone going over three hours will be penalized (1) point for each minute they are over.

GEAR REQUIREMENTS for TURFF.

Racer: Mountain or Road Bike, Bike Helmet, Source of Hydration
Team: Compass, Map Case (gallon Ziploc bag is acceptable), Pen/pencil

Meet and start at Point State Park in downtown Pittsburgh, PA. Start time is 9:00am. Finish time is 12:00pm. Awards will be held shortly after finish time. There will be a pre-race packet pickup at REI (Southside Works store) on Friday before the race. There will also be a non-mandatory prologue at that time to be used as a bonus for additional race time.

All Grass Roots Adventure Races are designed to be raced solo or in teams of two (any sex). Teammates must travel together at all times.

Prizes will be awarded to top three in each category--Co-Ed, all Female, all Male, and Solo division--with the best prizes going to the Co-Ed division.

Cost: $40 for Solo racer, $65 for team of two.
