It's an A to B to C. Start Friday at 10 pm. First cutoff at B at 6 pm Saturday (PDT); get all checkpoints you can in-between. Hot food and tents at B, the intermediate point. Sunday's start at 1 am (PST), cutoff at 1 pm; also a rogaine-style course (fit for both bikers and hikers). Bikes go back to A, while foot teams finish at C. About 140 miles total for the bikes. Field limits: 200 foot, 100 bike. A 4 hour rogaine will also be offered.

How the strategy works:

Stage One course will be set for 14-hour winning time. So, about half of the teams will be able to get all checkpoints and get to the camp under the time limit. There is a mandatory 8-hour rest period, but at the end of it, you can start Stage Two early and get extra time to complete it! Stage Two course will be planned for 12-hour winning time, so only the very best teams will be able to clean it out. So, overall scoring will be mostly by the order of finish first, then by Stage Two score, then Stage One scores will come into play.

For those with smaller appetites, hanging out around the start and starting later—perhaps by sunlight—is a valid and encouraged option. Similarly, you can start Stage Two later and get a few checkpoints on your mostly straight-line trek to the finish.
