The City of Ottawa has invited us to map the Pinhey's Point Historic Site on the Ottawa river near Dunrobin and to help them set up a permanent course there this summer. It a beautiful area with about 90 acres of open land with clusters of forest. It's just the right size for sprint-sized courses so I have completed a new sprint-standard map (1:5000) with the help of my mapping clinic students.

This first meet at Pinhey's will be a low-key fun event for all orienteering abilities.

There will be a beginner's course ( ~ 2 Km) and 2 easy sprint courses (~ 3.5 Km each) that you can chose from or run back-to-back for an accumulated total. The beginner's course will zigzag all over the river-side end of the property. Instructors will be available to introduce newcomers to the sport and to get them started on their course.

Basic refreshments will be provided by the O-club and a local Boy Scout troop will set up a BBQ at the site as a fund-raiser for their activities.

BTW - the sprint courses will feature several "ghost" controls - clusters of controls with no visible numbers. So read your control description & map carefully before you punch! It's a simulation of a Trail-O challenge. You will be penalized 30 seconds if you pick the wrong one!
