All of your races cancelled this summer but still looking for a challenge? Due to how popular our point-to-point courses have been during the Safe Summer Triple, Dontgetlost is excited to be hosting 2 orienteering training races throughout the remainder of the month of August to help you fill that void.
Races will be a traditional Sprint style, (but a little longer than a sprint) held at McMaster University and a classic Middle at Black Woods, both here in Hamilton. If you have never done a point to point orienteering race before, here is your chance to give it a shot! The Sprint, as it sounds, is a quick urban race with lots of choice for routes and quick decision making, whereas, the middle is all about choosing the most efficient route but it in the forest and checkpoints are both on and off trail.
Here is how it will work:
Both courses will be open until Labour Day, you choose when you do them and which races you will do; do one or both! If you choose both, you can make a day of it and do both courses in one day or split them up and attack them individually. Each course is approximately 4.5-5 km point to point. Thanks to our favourite new app, MapRunF, once you are done, you can compare your results and route choices to the area's best athletes, people in your age class or the frustrating 10 year old who really seems to know what they're doing!
You can also rerun the course as many times as you like while it is open!
