Event Summary
Rocky Woods is typical eastern Massachusetts terrain, with rolling topography, some rock, and mixed forest. It is generally open, and presents good runnability. However, the forest is often mottled with smallish conifers which will reduce visibility more than running speed.

The map itself is decent, although not superlative. It is a bit dated, and the original rock mapping is variable. But, this Sunday's courses depend much more on contour features, which tend to correspond nicely with reality.

Leaves are mostly down and water features are wet. If anything, some low-lying areas may contain more water than indicated on the map, but marshes, ponds, and streams largely conform to their mapped borders.

The courses are fairly conventional with respect to distance, difficulty, and geometry. The red course, however, is geometrically more convoluted than ideal, with many cross-overs and some potential doglegs. Because of this, and due to high control density in some areas, there is a risk of mispunching. We will be checking punches, so read the map and control descriptions carefully.
