Venue : Johannesburg Zoo, Forest Town, Johannesburg. Park on Erlswold or
Avonwold and enter Zoo via large green gate 80m up hill from Erlswold
/ Jan Smuts Junction
This is orienteering by moonlight. No head torches allowed. Small
hand-held penlights only. This is to avoid disturbing the animals too
much. Dress warm, this is an outside event.
Time : Registration : 17:30? 19:00
Starts : 18:00 ? 19:30
Courses : One course available. Unfortunately no unaccompanied juniors below
age 12.
Kiddies course to be provided around garden.
Manual punching and self timing.
Terrain : Mix of paths, buildings, open areas and animal enclosures. Many
paved areas and non-crossable fences and walls. All animal
enclosures and flower beds strictly Out of Bounds.
Map : Scale 1:4000 drawn by David Pilling 2007-2008 ? to sprint
specifications. New Sprint Symbols will be used. 2m contours.
Entry Fee : R40 per person (Zoo entrance fee plus R2 donation to Wattled Crane
Recovery Programme) age 12 upwards, no charge for under 12s
accompanying an adult on course.
Catering : Juniors to provide warm food and hot drinks at competitive prices
? Just R15 buys you a hot cup of homemade soup with a roll or a
?bratwurst? hot dog. Please RSVP and indicate quantities for
catering purposes by email to info@racorienteers.co.za
Notes : (1) Dogs not allowed in zoo
(2) Bring your own seats and marshmallow sticks
