Join WCOC for a day of route choice training before the Billygoat!

The morning will take place at Tarrywile Park, south of Danbury CT, then after lunch we will move over to Mountain Lakes. You are welcome to join us for one of both of the sessions, but you'll get maximum benefit from doing both!

10-11am starts Tarrywile (exercise will take less than an hour)

1.30-2.30pm starts at Mountain Lakes

The place I was thinking of suggesting for lunch looks to have closed down, so if anyone has suggestions of a place in Bethel or similar, it'd be nice to eat together.

OBJECTIVE
Participants should gain a better understanding of how to
(1) identify route choices, and
(2) compare route choices.

Each participant will learn about (1) their own relative running pace across various terrain, (2) techniques for guesstimating the relative distance between various route choices, and (3) combining such information to compare route choices.

Morning session at Tarrywile Park

Participant will run the same 600m leg 2-3 times using different route choices, which should provide insight into their own relative running strength over various terrain (see google docs).

Afternoon session at Mountain Lakes
We will test some of the insights gained from the morning session by running a route choice focused course of about 4-6 km, with opportunities for short-cuts. Participants will be paired based on compatible orienteering competence, and the orienteers paired up will run different pre-determined route choices to each control.
