Join CROC for Deschutes Daze, a multi-day orienteering festival in the Bend Oregon area, over Labor Day weekend, 2017. This barebones event is styled after Laramie Daze, with daily meets and a focus on great orienteering, but no posted results.
The terrain will cover everything from high desert sagelands to open alpine conifer forest, possible sunken lava tube caves, magnificent views of the Three Sisters wilderness area, and an urban sprint at a local community college.
Two events are near the Mt. Bachelor ski area on the Dutchman Flats map, which CROC (humbly) considers the best mapped orienteering terrain in the state.
Courses: There will be one advanced course each day, roughly of red length (5-10km), with cut-offs for green- (3.5-7 km) and brown-length (2.5-4.5 km) courses. There will be no white, yellow, or orange (beginner to advanced beginner) courses. All events are mass starts. We will be using e-punch so everyone compare their splits.
Aug 30 - Arnold Ice Caves, high desert sage/juniper, flattish
Aug 31 - Central Oregon Community College, urban sprint
Sept 1 - lower Dutchman Flats, forest, hilly
Sept 2 - Lava Butte,
Sept 3 - upper Dutchman Flats, forest, hilly
