Organiser: Neil Barr. Chasing start format.

Map and terrain: The map is called Devonshire Reef and is located roughly west of Eaglehawk. It is very old gold mining, very complex (at 1: 5,000 scale) with lots of interesting features; course setter Neil Barr has taken advantage of the terrain to set challenging and interesting courses.

The main event details:
Race 1:
First start time: 1:00pm
Distance: 2.0 k, 6 controls
Navigation: Easy
Format: Normal line course with 6 controls

Race 2:
First start time: 1:30pm approx
Distance: 2.0 k, 6 controls
Navigation: Hard
Format: Normal line course with 6 controls

Race 3:
First start time: 2:00pm approx
Distance: 2.0 kilometres, 11 controls
Navigation: Moderate
Format: Hageby. Each runner will do 2 loops. There are four different course variations.

Race 4:
First start time: 2:00pm approx
Distance: 2.0k, 22 controls in an area 300 by 300 metres.
Navigation: Hard
Format: Hageby with 16 variations in gold mining terrain.

Start format: For each race there will be a handicap list. The handicap will give a time for each runner's start. The slower will start first and the faster will start later. Hopefully you all finish close together.
Classes: Scoring is based on placing in each race.
Irongirl (under 16) Best two placings
Ironboy (under 16) Best two placings
Ironwoman Best two placings
Ironman Best three placings
Trophy (open to all) - Best three placings
PLEASE send an indication of your interest in running the ironman so sufficient maps can be printed and handicaps guessed prior to the event.

Directions: From Bendigo: Calder Highway to Maiden Gully. Turn right into Maiden Gully Road just before the shops. Veer left into Bracewell St. Turn left into Golf Links Road. Continue through golf course and turn right into Midson Rd immediately after golf course.

From Melbourne: Calder Hwy to Bendigo. At lights in Kangaroo Flat turn left onto Maryborough-Lockwood Road. At next roundabout turn right into Olympic Parade. Turn left when this ends at Calder Hwy and continue west towards Maiden Gully. Continue as above at Maiden Gully shops.

Please pre-enter by email to ironman2008 (at) fastmail.fm by the Sunday prior to the event to allow pre-printing of maps and allocation of handicaps.

Update. 20 entrants for the 'official' ironman. If I assume the Neves will turn up on the day, and the Brownes, and a few locals who don't have the internet but have form in turning up to this event, that will bring it close to 30. Should be sufficient for mayhem. Have printed extra maps anyway, so its not too late to put in an intention.
