Canadian Orienteering Championships 2008
Moncton, Canada
Aug 21-24, 2008
Type: Orienteering - World
Info: The 2008 COC's events take place in Fundy National Park, the site of the 2000 event. The sprint and middle distance are World Ranking Events. Our IOF adviser, Adrian Zissos, is thrilled with the challenges that the terrain will present. From fast to slow, rocky or mossy, green or white, climb or descend, low visibility or the stellar finish vista you will not be disappointed. The Bay of Fundy coastal micro climate almost guarantees humane cooler weather.
The three sprints during the 9 days of events including Fishbones, Rocks and COC sprint are all part of the North American Sprint Series and valued at 50 points each.
The actual park is a 75 minutes drive south of Moncton adjacent to the village of Alma, N.B.

A special first ever fun sprint event will be held at the world famous Hopewell Rocks provincial park half way to Fundy Park from Moncton. You get to race around the famous 60 foot flower pots on the ocean floor when the 40 foot tide is out. There is a definite course closure time! I wonder what vegetation symbol our mapper Bill Anderson will use for seaweed?
Fishbones, an event modeled on the Alberta concept will be held the weekend before in nearby Saint John, NB. the location is Rockwood park and will include a sprint, middle and long distance event all using the goal of great course setting, fun map and less administration. See the separate event listing.
The COF AGM, banquet, ice cream social, etc will be held in conjuction with the events. There will be a coaching session to introduce the new community module. The COF conference will be held from August 20-23 and highlights will include a talk by Holger Hott and a session for SI officials with Seigfried Ritter of SPORTident. The Sass Peepre National Junior camp will be held in Saint John, N.B. August 17-20.
