I thought Switzerland was a land of gender equality. Why is it none of their National Team women are doing military service and show up at the World Military Champs the way their National Team men are?
Not sure why you'd think that given that women's suffrage started in 1971!
And women still weren't allowed to vote in local elections in some parts of the country until the end of 1990.
That's a great finish Hannah!
35th for Hannah today!
There is a great team representing the US at the games...check out the results:

Robert Killian did great in the Long! He came to Laramie Daze and the US Champs as a tune up for the Military Champs. Good for him!
Looks like he did fantastic on the relay too, 30 min was expected win time and he got 32. Some phenomenal talent all round, hats off to the whole team!
Side note- anyone else notice Brazil doing really well, especially the female team?
Yes, and the Kazakh ladies were much better than last year, too.
We had a much improved performance for the US team this year - women were 14 of 21 teams that started (13 of 14 last year) and men I think 23 of 29. We were much closer to the teams just ahead of us , too - excited about future possibilities.
We're looking for more US military orienteers. More on that soon.
It looked enjoyable. Orienteering in Austria is usually enjoyable. Any news on maps?
What I found:
Relay
Middle (on an old map, course in blue)
Just got maps on checkout - I'll scan and email them to you, Jordan. Terrain was fast and open for middle and long, and with the density of men in the woods with a 1 min start interval, there were quite a few groups of runners together. The relay was more technical, although top runners were done in about the same pace as the long and middle. Not as technical as Sweden last year, and we hear the Korean terrain will be much steeper and difficult to run in for next year.
Awesome.
The terrain is just what I expected. It seems very similar to Germany.
I hope it was an enjoyable experience.
It was awesome. The Austrians were wonderful hosts. I was actually wearing three hats as Chief of Mission, Assistant Coach, and eventually athlete to give our women's team some depth. The promotion of "Friendship Through Sport" is effective - I enjoyed the official aspect much more than I expected and made a number of new international O friends. It was fun to discuss not only our passion for the sport, but also our military experiences.
Many thanks to the US and international O community for supporting us. The French military team, Swampfox, and QOC's Valerie Meyer, Ken Walker, and Peggy Dickison were hugely helpful in our training during the month of August. Our newest runners would have been literally lost without their assistance and advice!
Ken, are the controls out of the woods? ;-)
